A Morris County wildfire that residents say was caused by fireworks set off on Halloween night had spread to nearly 140 acres last week as the state continues to be hit with a drought of more than a month.
The wildfire occurred at The Craigmeur Lookout near Notch Road in Rockaway Township. Several farms in the area had to to evacuate their animals for the second time this month, following the Microwave Wildfire last month.
One Redditor had enough, in the thread "To the guy in the white Acura MDX."
"I was behind you this morning on Two Bridges Rd., in Lincoln Park as you threw your lit cigarette out of your window, while you were smoking with your child in the backseat," the user wrote. "We haven't had rain in well over a month. Multiple large fires have broken out. And we are on a statewide fire ban. You threw a little cigarette into dry leaves, in the middle of the woods. Be better dude, that was horrible of you. Get an ashtray, and stop smoking with your kid in the car."
Commenters supported the person fed up with the smoker.
"Yeah, this guy sounds like a real winner on multiple levels. Hopefully he reads this and takes it as a moment to reflect and be more thoughtful and responsible to serve as a proper role model for his progeny and protect them from second hand smoke but unlikely …he drives an Acura, defo narcissist," one user said.
"In Ocean County in multiple towns, fireworks were being shot off late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning," another user said. "In my neighborhood alone folks running fire pits has been a regular thing. We are seeing selfishness redefined to something so much more dangerous."
Meanwhile, as of Friday, Nov. 8, firefighters were battling four major wildfires spanning hundreds of acres prompting smoke advisories across the state.
